  so we've seen as the current gb is getting more facetime in an effort to reach the hearts and minds of the rank and file.

  this took a leap with video feeds at an open annual meeting.

  the international conventions are taking this a step farther.. do you think that local speakers at kingdom halls could ever be replaced by headquarter approved video feeds?.

  That would be so 1984 Big Brotherish - but they may just be going back to their roots - I understand that in Rutherford's day before the sales force were properly trained, door to door preaching involved playing gramaphone recordings of Rutherford's rambings.

  Higher Education and Disqualification for Privileges in the Congregation

  when i was still serving as an elder in the late summer of 2006 in a congregation of jws in socal we received a letter from the "christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses" (read: the governing body) directing that anyone pursuing a higher education would be disqualified from privileges of service: elder, servant, pioneer, etc.

  i remember this quite distinctly because i had just received by ba in education in june a few months before this.

  in 2002, i had decided to pursue a degree under the society's then current "it's a personal decision" policy and was quite shocked at their drastic policy change.

  Splash - they say it is about greed but it is really about not wanting Witnesses to have crirtical thinking skills, which is why the university educated cannot remain as elders for fear of puluting others with critical thinking.

  Welcome lurking4change and good on you for standing up for your daughter's right to a university education. I get the sense this has helped you to start questioning other WBTS doctrine - good work and keep it up.

  I found it interesting that after leaving the borg seh ended up in a relatiosnhip with a control freak - I suspect that the upbringing may result in being atrtracted to these type of relaitonships and as she said 'not realising it's not normal.' What do others think? Does a JW upbringing put a woman at risk of ending up in a high control destructive relationships?

  also jgnat the male power structure that creates such fertile ground for the abuse. The whole structure of the organisation has created this plague and this cases which just keep coming because while they can tinker at the edges they will never address the organising principles of patriarchy and unquestioning obedience that create such a haven for paedophiles.

  Thank you 'a watcher' for your comment - please read my post to the other apologist who posted on this thread. You should actually admit that you have no idea about how to make the Sisters happy and stop regurgitating the hollow words you are taught at the KH.

  I am afraid I would have to take issue with your claim that Jehovah is more loving and reasonable than people given his track record in the OT of petty jealousy, cruelty, vindictiveness and mass murder.

  I suspect for most Sisters the social aspect of belonging to the organisation is what keeps them in the organisation but it is the organisation (that claims to be Jehovah's mouthpiece) that keeps them unhappy by constantly making them feel inadequate, guilty and lacking in self-esteem.

  The INTJ Personality Type, (and those close to it)

  i am compelled to write a bit about this at this late hour here in the us, because it is keeping me up.. the recent four year old thread on the briggs myers personality type test that was dug up, produced an interesting finding.

  many here, (at least tested informally for), the intj personality type.

  intjs also do not understand irrational behavior particularly well at all.. why does this matter?

  88JM - I think that is similar to my point about self-selection onto JWN but I am not sure it is limited to INTJs, although the suggestion introverts may be more attracted to public internet forums may have some validity.

  d4g - I think we agree then - my theory as elaborated above is that there is a degree of self-selection that causes NT types to more readily become apostates and also to find the JWN environment stimulating.

  d4g - I am not sure I understand your point. I saw a lot of Ns in the Myers Brigg thread and a lot of NTs in particular and suggested that it is not surprising that NTs are Apostates as they can see through the WBTS BS and to take the point further it is not surprising that NTs predominate on JWN because JWN is a place for rational discourse and argument and NTs love rational discourse and argument. Other personality types may well be put off by the tone of some of the arguments on JWN. I am not sure that the fact there is also more INTJs than in the general population is of any greater significance than the prevalence of NTs. Also I woudl reiterate that Myers Brigg is not scientific and while it makes some intuitive sense I would be careful about taking the exact characteristics described as a complete description of everyone who has the same profile and drawing firm conclusions from that, otherwise it starts to become a bit like a horoscope.
